Asia / Japan
Japan is situated in the Pacific Ocean. It is comprised of several islands from which the northernmost have a boreal while the southernmost a sub-tropical climate. Because of the variable climate and ecological background, Japan's avifauna is incredibly rich. More than 600 species have been recorded and there are approximately 60 species that are either endemic or sub-regional endemic, including the Okinawa Rail, Blakiston's Fish-owl, Japanese Murrelet, Red-crowned Crane, Pryer's Woodpecker and Lidth's Jay.
Winter is a good time to visit, with famous gatherings of Cranes and Steller's Sea Eagles, and we will visit five islands, from the frozen north to the subtropical south in search of the specialties and endemics.
Our tour is offered in conjunction with Sarus Bird Tours. Sarus has been visiting Japan for many years.
