Hungary is one of the best countries in Europe and definitely a prime East European destination for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. The country has a well developed infrastructure, whilst retaining the charm of its preserved natural heritage. The famous Hungarian hospitality and excellent local cuisine, famous wines, excellent beer makes it an ideal destination for birdwatching and natural history holidays.
Our tours take you to the world famous Hortobágy and Kiskunság National Parks, part of the once continuous Eurasian Steppe with its special landscapes, avifauna and flora. The grasslands, marshes and fishponds are a magnet for both breeding and migratory birds. Here we have our own charming, traditional, thach-roofed Kondor EcoLodge with such garden and near garden species like Golden Oriole, Roller, Bee-eater, Tawny Pipit, Lesser Grey Shrike, Montague's Harrier, Scops Owl, Little Owl, Long-eared Owl, Nightjar, Lesser-spotted & Syrian Woodpeckers and many more.
The forested Börzsöny, Bükk and Zemplen Hills in the North-Eastern part of Hungary are excellent for owls, such as Ural and Eagle Owls, woodpeckers including White-backed, Black and Grey-headed Woodpeckers, raptors like Eastern Imperial Eagle or Lesser Spotted Eagle and many woodland songbirds.
Autumn is extremely spectacular with tens of thousands of trumpeting Common Cranes and even more Geese and other migrating flocks. Amazing, picturesque colours painting the grasslands and especially the forests into a fairy-tale like landscape. From large trip of Dotterels through various sought after raptors like Saker Falcon or Imperial Eagle till Ural Owl and White-backed Woodpecker there are many attractive species to look for at this time of the year.
